The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the US operation in Venezuela, calling it an “act of armed aggression.”
“This morning the United States committed an act of armed aggression against Venezuela. This causes deep concern and condemnation. The pretexts cited to justify such actions are worthless. Ideologized hostility has prevailed over businesslike pragmatism, readiness to build relations of trust and predictability,” the statement says.

Later, the statement was supplemented with Moscow’s expression of dissatisfaction regarding the reported removal to US territory and arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
“We are extremely alarmed by reports that the President of Venezuela Maduro and his wife were forcibly taken out of the country during today’s aggressive actions by the United States. We call for immediate clarification of this situation,” the Russian Foreign Ministry website states.
As reported, Saturday, Jan. 3, the United States conducted a military operation on Venezuelan territory. According to senior officials and US President Donald Trump, Maduro was arrested and taken to the United States on charges of drug trafficking.
For years, Venezuela’s Maduro had been a consistent ally of Russia and fellow dictator Vladimir Putin. In almost all UN votes regarding the war in Ukraine, took a neutral position or voted in sync with Russia, Belarus, and North Korea.

Against this backdrop, Russian pro-government propagandists began calling for a more decisive reaction from Russia and the BRICS countries.
In particular, writer and propagandist Zakhar Prilepin, known for his Ukrainophobic rhetoric, said he expects support for Venezuela’s sovereignty from Russia, China, and North Korea, which he refers to as the “progressive world.”
“It would seem that the progressive forces of the world — us, China, the DPRK, BRICS — should bare their teeth and defend Venezuela’s sovereignty, just as the Canadian, European, and American gentlemen defended Ukraine’s sovereignty (and they really did defend it)? Or has the situation with Maduro once again come as a surprise to us? We wipe away our tears and watch further…,” Prilepin writes. (Screenshot from Prilepin’s page/Telegram)
