Kyiv Caused Russian Air Defenses $4B in Losses, SBU Claims

Long-range strikes by the Alpha Special Operations Center of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) unit have severely damaged key elements of Russia’s layered air defense system, with losses estimated at about $4 billion.

According to an SBU statement published on Telegram, Ukrainian forces have destroyed or disabled multiple Russian air defense systems over the past year, including S-300, S-350 and S-400 systems, Buk-M1 and Buk-M2 surface-to-air missile systems, Pantsir-S1 and Pantsir-S2 missile-and-gun systems, as well as Tor-M1, Tor-M2 and Tor-M3 systems.

Russian radar reconnaissance and targeting capabilities have also suffered heavy losses.

The SBU said that radar stations critical for detecting air targets and guiding air defense operations were damaged or destroyed, including Nebo-U and Nebo-M radars, Podlyot, Niobium, Kasta-2E2, Gamma-D and Protyvnik-GE systems, as well as radars integrated into Buk and S-300/S-400 air defense complexes, including the 92N6 radar.

The SBU released drone footage showing the destruction of several air defense systems, though Kyiv Post could not independently verify the time or location.

“This work had a systemic effect: corridors were broken through in the Russian Federation’s multilayered air defense,” the statement said.

According to the agency, these breaches enabled safe routes for Ukrainian long-range drones to penetrate deep into Russian territory, allowing strikes on military bases, warehouses, airfields and other military facilities.
