US President Donald Trump warned Iran of severe consequences if it attempts to disrupt global oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route for the world’s energy supplies.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints, with roughly a fifth of global oil consumption passing through the route each day.

In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump said the United States would respond with overwhelming force if Tehran tried to block or interfere with oil traffic through the narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman.

“If Iran does anything that stops the flow of Oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States of America TWENTY TIMES HARDER [sic] than they have been hit thus far,” Trump wrote.

He added that Washington would also strike “easily destroyable targets” in Iran, warning the country could be left unable to rebuild.

“Additionally, we will take out easily destroyable targets that will make it virtually impossible for Iran to ever be built back, as a Nation, again – Death, Fire, and Fury will reign upon them – But I hope, and pray, that it does not happen!” Trump said.

Trump also framed the warning as a message to countries dependent on energy shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, including China.

“This is a gift from the United States of America to China, and all of those Nations that heavily use the Hormuz Strait,” Trump wrote, adding that he hoped the move would be “greatly appreciated.”

US Officials Reappear at Russia’s Top Economic Forum After Nearly a Decade

Putin aide Ushakov confirmed that a US delegation, led by Head of the US Federal Commission of Fine Arts Rodney Mims Cook, is visiting the SPIEF 2026 to talk about cultural ties amid a wider push from the West to separate culture from politics despite Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier, Trump said US and Israeli military operations have severely damaged Iran’s military capabilities and warned of harsh consequences if Tehran attempts to disrupt oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking at a press conference after what he called “a very big two days,” he described the campaign as highly successful and suggested the conflict could end soon, depending on Iran’s response.

He stated that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open.

Trump added that the US and its partners could quickly secure the waterway, including escorting tankers and eliminating threats to shipping.

“We could take them all out in one day,” he said.

He also warned that any Iranian attempt to interfere with shipping would trigger an overwhelming response.

“If they do anything, the price will be incalculable.”

Trump claimed US and Israeli strikes had “wiped” Iran’s forces “out very completely,” saying much of the country’s naval power had been destroyed and its missile capabilities significantly reduced.

“Most of Iran’s naval power has been sunk. It’s on the bottom of the sea… Their missile capability is down to about 10 percent, maybe less,” he said.

According to Trump, more than 5,000 targets have been struck so far, including drone production sites and missile facilities.

He claimed that Iran had rejected diplomatic alternatives, including what Trump described as a US offer of unlimited nuclear fuel for civilian energy.

“If we didn’t knock out their Iranian potential… they would have had a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.
