US President Donald Trump said he is not concerned about the election defeat of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, whom he had publicly supported in recent months.
Speaking to Jonathan Karl of ABC News, Trump commented for the first time on the outcome of Hungary’s parliamentary elections held on April 12.

“I think the new man’s going to do a good job — he’s a good man,” Trump said, referring to Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza party, who secured victory in the vote.
Trump added that he was not deeply involved in Orbán’s campaign and downplayed the potential impact of a personal visit to Hungary.
“He was behind substantially,” Trump said. “I wasn’t that involved in this one. Viktor’s a good man, though.”
The US president also noted that Magyar, a former member of Orbán’s political camp, shares similar views on immigration.
“I think he’s going to be good,” Trump said.
Over the past six months, Trump had repeatedly expressed support for Orbán and pledged economic prosperity for Hungary in the event of a victory by Orbán’s Fidesz party.
Ahead of the election, US Vice President JD Vance visited Budapest, where he held talks with Orbán.
Magyar’s center-right Tisza party secured 138 seats in the 199-seat parliament with 53.6% of the vote, with 97.35% of precincts counted, while Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party took 55 seats with 37.8%. Orbán, who had held power since 2010, conceded defeat Sunday.
