French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will meet President Volodymyr Zelensky in London on Sunday, in a new show of European unity behind Kyiv.

According to a statement from the Elysee Palace, the leaders will gather for high-level talks aimed at strengthening wartime support for Ukraine and increasing pressure on Russia.

The French presidency said the meeting would help the leaders align their next steps on backing Ukraine and tightening pressure on Russia’s war effort.

A unified push against Russia

The London meeting brings together three of Europe’s most powerful leaders at a tense moment in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The Elysee Palace strongly condemned Moscow’s ongoing invasion, saying Russia is facing “military, economic, and strategic failure” while continuing to press ahead on the front lines in a deadly war.

The talks come shortly after Zelensky publicly urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold direct peace negotiations, seeking to test Moscow’s willingness to end the war.

Europe steps forward

The London meeting also reflects Europe’s effort to keep Ukraine at the center of the international agenda and deny Moscow any opening to exploit political distraction in the West.

Zelensky has also made clear that any real peace process cannot be decided by Moscow alone. In his recent letter to Putin, the Ukrainian president stressed that Europe must have a seat at the table, making the London meeting part of Kyiv’s broader push to ensure that Ukraine’s security – and the future of the continent – are shaped with European leaders directly involved.
