Sybiha said reopening the Strait of Hormuz would be critical for global economic stability and maritime security.
“The entire world needs the Strait of Hormuz reopened – for energy market stability, not new wild cards for aggressors; and to secure freedom of navigation as a guiding principle across the world,” he said.
According to the minister, Ukraine sees the agreement as an opportunity for the US to reenergize diplomatic efforts focused on ending the war with Russia.
“In Ukraine, we also see this as momentum and an opportunity for the United States to reenergize peace efforts aimed at ending Russian aggression against Ukraine,” Sybiha said. “American leadership is crucial to ending this war.”
G7 to Meet Zelensky as Trump Signals Optimism for Ukraine Peace Push
Ukraine-US talks expected at G7 summit
Sybiha said discussions on peace efforts would likely be a key topic during a meeting between Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Évian, France.
He argued that both the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine highlight the need not only to stop ongoing wars but also to prevent future aggression.
“One principle is now critical in both the Middle East and Ukraine: we must work not only to stop the war but also to ensure lasting peace and prevent any repetition of aggression,” Sybiha said.
He added that Ukraine remains committed to achieving that goal and is prepared to continue working with international partners to secure a sustainable peace.
Trump will participate in a working session with Zelensky during the upcoming G7 summit in Evian, France. The primary focus of the session is to establish parameters and conditions for potential peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, regarding territorial disputes and maintaining sanctions against Moscow.
European leaders, who are currently shouldering the bulk of military and financial aid to Kyiv following the suspension of US bilateral military donations, are pushing for a more prominent role in the peace process.
