Ukrainian officials have warned that Russia has received direct orders to significantly increase kamikaze drone strikes on Zaporizhzhia, with civilian locations expected to be among the primary targets, according to RBC-Ukraine. Authorities are urging residents to shelter immediately during air raid alerts.
The beach strike is part of a broader wave of Russian attacks on the region targeting civilian infrastructure. Overnight strikes across Ukraine on Tuesday wounded at least six people, including two elderly civilians in Zaporizhzhia, three in Sumy, and one woman in Kharkiv.
On June 20, Russian forces struck Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Poltava with guided aerial bombs and other munitions, killing seven people and injuring 31, including six children. The attacks damaged civilian infrastructure, forced the closure of traffic across the Dnipro Hydroelectric Station dam in Zaporizhzhia, and sparked large fires at industrial sites in Poltava.
