Ukrainian Defense Forces have struck and damaged a strategic railway bridge in the Russian-occupied Luhansk region, further complicating logistical operations for Russian forces in eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine strikes key railway bridge in occupied Luhansk region
On Sunday, June 28, the Telegram channel “Exilenova+” published photographs revealing extensive damage to a railway bridge located in the occupied village of Sabivka. According to the report accompanying the images, the structure was targeted by Ukrainian forces two days earlier, on June 26.

The Sabivka bridge is considered a critical node in the region’s transport infrastructure. “It plays an important role in railway logistics between the temporarily occupied areas of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions,” the channel’s description noted.
A broader campaign against Russian logistics
The strike on the Sabivka bridge is part of an intensified, systematic campaign by Ukrainian forces to isolate Russian troops by severing their primary supply lines and logistical arteries across occupied territories.
The Luhansk operation follows a string of strikes executed by Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SSO) and other military branches against key infrastructure in southern Ukraine and the occupied Crimean Peninsula earlier in the week.
On June 23, the SSO reported the complete destruction of the railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal near the village of Rozdolne. The SSO noted that the bridge served as a “strategic military-logistical artery” used to transport cargo, resources, and military equipment both from Russia into southern Ukraine and within the peninsula itself.

Drone footage released by the military showed precise hits that destroyed the railway track and caused a structural span to collapse. A secondary strike later destroyed Russian repair equipment brought to the site.
The campaign has been relentless across multiple fronts. Prior to the North Crimean Canal operation, Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed strikes on several other critical chokepoints:
On June 21, Ukrainian forces struck the railway bridge over the Syvash River in Chonhar, disrupting the vital Novooleksiyivka-Dzhankoy rail line connecting southern Ukraine with Crimea. On June 20, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces attacked the road bridge over the Henichesk Strait.
Earlier, on June 19, strikes were confirmed on railway bridges in the Rozdolne and Vladislavivka areas.
These sustained operations have forced temporary closures at major checkpoints, including Chonhar and crossings near Henichesk, severely degrading the Russian military’s ability to reinforce its defensive lines and sustain its offensive capabilities.
