Ukraine’s Security Service (SSU) have arrested two Russian spies who attempted to join the Ukrainian army. The following is the SSU’s statement in full:

The SSU Counterintelligence detained two agents of the aggressor state, who were trying to collect intelligence on supply of Western weapons and ammunition to Ukrainian troops.

To do this, they tried to join the ranks of the logistics units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the traitors are two residents of Vyshgorod district (Kyiv region), who assisted russian troops during the temporary occupation of a part of Kyiv region.

The armed men took an active part in the so-called ‘filtering’, when russians were looking for Ukrainian patriots among local residents who resisted the invaders.

The investigation also established that the agents tortured a minor boy for helping Ukrainian military identify equipment and locations of the occupiers.

After the liberation of Kyiv region, the two individuals remained in the area and continued subversive activities against our state.

One of the traitors left for a neighbouring region, where he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to collect and pass to the enemy information on movement routes and location of Western weapons. The other one wanted to be ‘called up’ to the Army from one of the territorial communities around Kyiv.

Putin’s iron-fisted Chechen ruler said he wants Ukrainian POWs to be used as human shields. He called President Zelensky a “goat-devil” and said captives looked like they had been living in a resort.

However, the SSU had been carefully following every step of the enemy agents and exposed their plans and documented unlawful activity.

During the searches of the detainees’ homes, investigators found:

components for improvised explosive devices;

communication devices the agents used to contact russian ‘coordinators’.

The SSU investigators have notified the detainees of suspicion of treason committed under martial law.

The court has decided to keep them in custody.

The SSU is verifying the traitors’ connections to russian special services.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
