A wave of Russian drone strikes ignited multiple fires and injured three people in the southern port city of Odesa early Wednesday, April 16, according to Ukrainian officials.

The attacks, carried out by Russian forces using Shahed kamikaze drones, triggered a series of explosions around 1:50 a.m., Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov said. Emergency services were dispatched shortly after local media reported a large-scale fire in the area.

Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, confirmed that a residential building and civilian infrastructure were damaged in the strike, though he did not specify which facilities were hit.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine said fires broke out at multiple addresses, including residential buildings and warehouses. Photos and video footage released by the agency showed firefighters battling blazes, smoke rising from a damaged apartment complex, and the wreckage of household structures.

In one clip, a resident is seen calming a frightened dog as emergency crews work in the background. Two elderly women stood near a gate, receiving comfort from rescuers and family members.

“We had a house. But everything will be fine, we will rebuild,” one of the victims said in the video.

In total, three civilians were reported injured. Psychologists and police were also on-site to assist residents.

Images shared by emergency responders showed the aftermath of the strike, including a gutted civilian home and a car with shattered windows surrounded by debris.
