The percentage of Ukrainians who do not trust US President Donald Trump has nearly doubled since American elections five months ago, reaching 90 percent in the latest polling by the New Europe Center.

In the survey performed by the Kyiv-based think tank, Ukrainians were asked about their trust in Trump, and as of mid-April 2025, only 7.4 percent of respondents fully or somewhat trust the American leader, as opposed to 89 percent who do not trust him.
According to a previous survey from November 2024, 47.2 percent of Ukrainians said they did not trust Trump. A few months earlier, the Pew Research Center found that 16 percent of French respondents trusted Trump, compared to 30 percent in the UK, while Hungary had the highest level of trust at 37 percent.
The survey was conducted between April 10 and April 24 with a sample size of 1,000 respondents. The survey did not cover territories occupied by Russia.
“[Ninety percent] is too high a figure to ignore… It is likely that this figure reflects not only disappointment with the failure to achieve quick peace, but also concern over the means by which the White House is pursuing its peacemaking goals,” the New Europe Center wrote.
“For example, Donald Trump considered it premature to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine. Meanwhile, as last year’s opinion poll showed, most Ukrainians (64.1%) believed that negotiations with Russia should not occur without concrete security guarantees from the West. The reasoning: Russia would resume the war after a short pause.”

According to CNN poll results released this week, Trump’s 41 percent approval rating in the US is “the lowest for any newly elected president at 100 days, dating back at least to Dwight Eisenhower – including Trump’s own first term.”
Just 22 percent said they strongly approve of Trump’s handling of the job, a new low, and 45 percent said they strongly disapprove.
Meanwhile, at a rally in Michigan on Tuesday, Trump said that pundits were calling his second term “the most consequential presidency in history.”
