‘Here at Critical Time’: Julie Davis Arrives in Kyiv to Lead US Embassy Amid Peace Push

Julie S. Davis, the US Ambassador to Cyprus and newly appointed Chargé d’Affaires to Ukraine, has arrived in Kyiv, the US Embassy confirmed on Monday.

Davis’s arrival comes as the Trump administration pushes for diplomatic end to Russia’s war in Ukraine and strengthens bilateral ties after last week’s signing of the landmark Ukraine Reconstruction Fund Agreement.

“Ambassador Davis arrives in Ukraine at a critical time to carry forward President Trump’s policy to end the war and ensure lasting peace and prosperity in Ukraine,” the US Embassy in Kyiv wrote on X, welcoming her to the post.

Davis was tapped by US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to take over the embassy following the resignation of Bridget Brink, a Biden appointee who had served as US Ambassador to Ukraine since 2022.

In her new role, Davis will lead the US diplomatic mission in Kyiv while remaining accredited as Ambassador to Cyprus, according to the Kyiv Post’s Washington correspondent.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, during the announcement of Davis’ appointment on May 1, described her role as “essential” in advancing peace negotiations and rebuilding the country.

“In this capacity, Davis will work tirelessly to end the war during this critical moment,” Bruce said. “She will strengthen the bilateral relationship, making both America and Ukraine safer, stronger, and more prosperous.”

In a statement, Davis said she is honored to serve in Ukraine during a defining moment and will remain in Kyiv until a new ambassador is nominated and confirmed.
