A Russian missile strike on Friday killed at least five people and injured 23 in Ukraine’s central Dnipropetrovsk region, where Moscow has intensified attacks in recent weeks.
Russian forces, which invaded Ukraine in early 2022, are attempting to expand their offensive deeper into the region, seen as a strategic gateway to Ukraine’s industrial heartland.

“A 46-year-old man wounded in today’s missile strike on Samara has died in the hospital. In total, five people were killed in the attack,” regional governor Serhiy Lysak said after missiles hit the town of Samar, near the regional capital Dnipro.
“Sincere condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones. As of now, 23 people have been reported injured, four of them in serious condition.”
Earlier this week, Russian strikes on Dnipro and Samar killed at least 21 people. Ukrainian officials said military facilities near Samar were also targeted.
Russia has recently claimed to have seized two villages near the Dnipropetrovsk region’s border, though Kyiv has not confirmed those gains.
Separately, authorities in Kharkiv reported one civilian killed and three wounded in new Russian attacks, without specifying locations.
