The UK will extend its training program for Ukrainian soldiers to “at least” the end of 2026 and create additional courses to deepen leadership skills, the Ministry of Defense said on Sunday.
Known as Operation Interflex and launched in 2022, the five-week training courses initially aimed to put new recruits through basic training. Over the years, the course has been extended to seven weeks and now offers development to troops with more experience.

In addition to the extension, the MOD also said the course is adapting to better suit the needs of Ukraine’s “evolving military requirements.” There will now be a bigger focus on “leadership and instructor training.”
“Training a new generation of Ukrainian instructors is one of the most effective methods to strengthen Ukraine’s security both now and in the long-term, increasing skills and capacity to expand its own training program,” the MOD’s statement said.
Defense Secretary John Healey said more than 50,000 Ukrainians had been through Operation Interflex.
“We will continue to step up our support alongside allies, so that Ukraine can defend today and deter tomorrow,” he said. “And as the push for peace continues, we must make the Ukrainians into the strongest possible deterrent to secure that future peace.”
