Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR) said Thursday its special forces destroyed two Russian aircraft and radar stations during a raid on the occupied Crimean Peninsula.

According to HUR, members of its special unit known as the Ghosts hit two Russian An-26 transport planes and damaged coastal radar systems. The targets included a surface situation radar and an MR-10M1 Cape M1 coastal radar station.

HUR said the attack was carried out during a raid on Crimea and described the destroyed equipment as “high-value targets” of Russia’s occupying forces. The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces (AFU) confirmed the Kremlin’s losses in its daily update for Sept. 24.

The video published by HUR, filmed from what appeared to be a drone-mounted camera, showed the device approaching Russian military targets before unleashing strikes. Seconds later, explosions lit up the site and thick smoke rose into the air as the aircraft burned.

The exact location of the strikes are unclear at the time of publication.

Moscow has not commented on the claim, and battlefield reports could not be independently verified by Kyiv Post.

“Armed struggle continues,” HUR said in its statement, closing with the slogan: “Glory to Ukraine.”

Kyiv has intensified attacks on occupied Crimea in recent months.

Russia Imposes Jet Fuel Export Ban Amid Fuel Crisis

Russia imposed a jet fuel ban from June 1 to Nov. 30, following earlier restrictions on gasoline exports. The decision comes amid gasoline rationings in occupied areas as Ukrainian strikes continue to hit Russian oil infrastructure.

On Tuesday, Ukrainian forces also reportedly damaged barracks, a club, a training building and a canteen at the 31st Division’s base near Vitino village in occupied Crimea’s Saky district.

On Monday, HUR announced that its “Ghosts” special operations unit destroyed two Russian Be-12 “Chaika” anti-submarine amphibious aircraft in Crimea a day prior – the first confirmed combat loss of this Soviet-designed model.

On Sunday, HUR said it had struck Russian Mi-8 helicopters and Nebo-U radar systems in occupied Crimea amid Kyiv’s intensified aerial assaults on the occupied peninsula.

In early September, HUR said it destroyed a 48Ya6-K1 Podlet radar and an RLM-M module of the 55Zh6M Nebo-M system, in addition to more Mi-8s and a tug boat targeted earlier the same month.

The Podlet radar specializes in detecting very low altitude drone and cruise missiles, while the RLM-M of the Nemo-M system is designed to detect and track medium and high altitude targets, purportedly including stealth targets. The two systems are used together to feed information to S-300 and S-400 (NATO: SA-20 and SA-21, respectively) surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) systems that use their own radars to employ their missiles against the targeted aircraft or weapons.

Ukraine reportedly used its new Flamingo missile during one of the strikes.

A spokesperson from the Ukrainian navy said Russia has positioned more air defense systems than the oil refineries located within Russia.
