Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the next trilateral talks on ending Russia’s war in Ukraine will take place in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) on Feb. 4 and 5.

“Our negotiating team has delivered a report. The dates of the next trilateral meetings have been set: February 4 and 5 in Abu Dhabi,” he wrote on Telegram.

Zelensky added that Ukraine is ready for substantive discussions.

“We are focused on results that bring us closer to a real and dignified end to the war. Thanks to everyone supporting these efforts,” he said.

In his Sunday morning report, Zelensky said repair work is underway in many regions to restore critical infrastructure.

“In January alone, Russia launched more than 6,000 strike drones, about 5,500 guided aerial bombs, and 158 missiles of various types against Ukraine - targeting energy, railways, and other infrastructure essential for daily life,” he said.

He added that attacks continue, with over the past week more than 980 strike drones, nearly 1,100 guided bombs, and two missiles launched.

“We are recording Russian attempts to destroy logistics and transport links between cities and communities,” Zelensky said.

He also stressed Ukraine’s need for missile defense systems.

“Protection from the sky is critical. Missiles for Patriot, NASAMS, F-16, and other platforms are needed daily,” he said.

US Secretary of State Congratulates Russians on Russia Day

In a brief statement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has congratulated Russian citizens, while underscoring Washington’s push for a negotiated end to the war in Ukraine.

During an evening address on Jan. 31, Zelensky said Ukraine is ready for all working formats and is preparing for next week’s meetings, while awaiting specifics from the United States.

“It is important that these talks produce results. We are counting on meetings next week,” he added.

Earlier, Ukrainian President said the planned Feb. 1 meeting between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Abu Dhabi may be postponed due to developments with Iran.

“We agreed the meeting will be in Abu Dhabi. It is important that everyone we agreed on is present, because all sides are waiting for feedback. But the date or place may change,” Zelensky said, adding that tensions between the US and Iran could affect the timing.

Earlier, Zelensky described the two days of closed-door talks in Abu Dhabi as “constructive.” The Jan. 23-24 talks marked the first direct Ukraine-Russia contacts under a US-backed peace plan, with both sides outlining acceptable terms to end the war.

Discussions focused on “possible parameters for ending the war,” with all sides agreeing that US oversight is needed for credible security arrangements. Delegations planned to report back to their capitals and coordinate next steps.

However, while negotiations were ongoing, Ukraine accused Russia of sabotaging the talks by launching a major missile strike, hitting both civilians and, symbolically, “the negotiation table,” according to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

Moscow has reiterated that control over Ukraine’s Donbas is a prerequisite for any peace process. The talks discussed potential buffer zones and control mechanisms.

These meetings are the latest in ongoing peace efforts since 2022, following earlier initiatives like the Minsk agreements. While some talks produced limited outcomes - such as prisoner exchanges and the return of abducted children - none have achieved a ceasefire.
