Konotop Left Without Power and Gas As Ukraine Repels 221 Russian Drones and Missiles

Ukraine came under a massive overnight air assault as Russia launched more than 220 drones and Iskander-M ballistic missiles, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

As per the report on Telegram, the attack began on the evening of June 10 after 6 p.m. Kyiv time. In total, Russia fired two Iskander-M missiles from the Belgorod region and launched 221 drones of various types, including Shahed (some jet-powered), Gerbera, Italmas, and Parody decoy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Ukrainian air defenses responded using aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, unmanned platforms, and mobile fire groups. As of 07:30 on Thursday morning, 195 drones had been shot down or suppressed across the north, south, and east of the country.

Despite the interception efforts, missile strikes and 21 drones hit targets at nine locations, with falling debris reported in eight more areas.

In Konotop, Sumy region, Russian drones struck infrastructure early on Thursday. Mayor Artem Semenikhin said the attack damaged the city’s gas supply network, leaving parts of the city without gas.

Residential buildings and transport infrastructure were also hit. A woman born in 1984 was injured by shrapnel but is receiving outpatient treatment.

Later, authorities reported that Konotop was left without electricity and water, with water supplies being rationed.

At 9:12 a.m., the mayor of Konotop reported a new strike on the city.

Russia has hardened its conscription system since launching its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, AFP reports. Facial-recognition cameras, year-round recruitment and online summonses have made it harder for men to avoid mandatory service, while rights groups say conscripts are often pressured to sign open-ended army contracts that can send them to the front.

“A strike on civilian infrastructure. There were people at the impact site. As of now, two civilians are known to have been injured – burns and shrapnel injuries. One of them is in critical condition. The rescue operation is ongoing,” he wrote.

Later, the mayor reported that a 41-year-old woman, who worked as a cleaner, had died.

The State Emergency Service (DSNS) said two communities in the Synelnykove district of the Dnipropetrovsk region were also struck, leaving one person dead and three injured. Damage was reported to a shop, private homes, a farm, outbuildings, and vehicles, while firefighters extinguished resulting blazes.

One person was also injured in the Zelenodolsk community.

In Pavlohrad, a rescue unit building was damaged during Wedneday shelling, and a high-rise residential building was also hit, injuring 12 people.

Separately, Russian forces attacked two cargo ships in the Black Sea corridor, the Barbarossa and a Panamanian-flagged vessel on Wedneday evening, while further strikes were reported in southern Odesa region, targeting civilian infrastructure and energy facilities.
