Bus traffic from Ukraine to Poland at the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint will not be suspended despite planned repairs, according to Ukraine’s Minister of Community and Territorial Development, Oleksiy Kuleba.
The Thursday announcement overturns earlier updates from Ukraine’s State Customs Service stating that bus traffic would be suspended from June 15, 2026, to November 2027.

Kuleba said a consensus has been reached with Polish authorities, calling the border crossing “one of the busiest checkpoints for passenger traffic between our countries.”
He said repairs would continue but would not affect bus traffic.
“After negotiations between the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Poland, with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland, an agreement was reached: Bus traffic through the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint will not be stopped during the summer season, even during repair work,” Kuleba wrote on Facebook.
The minister thanked Ukrainian diplomatic staff and the Polish authorities for their work.
The Shehyni-Medyka crossing, located about 80 kilometers (50 miles) west of Lviv, is one of nine road checkpoints between Poland and Ukraine.
The full list is available on the website of Ukraine’s State Border Service (DPSU).
Information on waiting times for trucks and buses is also available on websites operated by both Ukrainian and Polish authorities.

Ukraine’s airspace has been closed since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, leading to spikes in road and rail travel across borders.
However, travel is expected to become faster as Ukrainians entering the EU transition to fully digital border controls, including biometric scans and new travel authorization systems under the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES).
