President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia’s only remaining military advantage is its ability to launch ballistic missile attacks against Ukrainian civilians, arguing that Ukraine has grown stronger both on the battlefield and in the air.
According to Zelensky on Friday, Ukraine’s recent military successes have demonstrated its growing capabilities, a view he said is shared by international leaders following recent diplomatic meetings.

“Putin – whether he knows it or not – receives information and understands that he no longer has an advantage,” Zelensky said. “There are ballistic missiles, there are truly tragic and horrific strikes against our civilian population, but that is the only advantage he has left. There is nothing else.”
Zelensky said he had discussed Ukraine’s progress with US President Donald Trump and several other world leaders during the recent NATO summit.
“Everyone notes one thing: Ukraine has become stronger,” he said.
Ukraine launches Freya air defense project
Zelensky also announced plans for Freya, a Ukrainian-European anti-ballistic air defense system designed to intercept ballistic missiles in a role similar to the US-made Patriot system.
He said the project aims to produce a cheaper and more scalable alternative to existing systems and that the first international meeting on the initiative will take place in France in the near future.
“Our task was to bring together leaders, companies, and national security advisers, and present this project to countries that can help Ukraine implement it very quickly,” Zelensky said.

“If leaders, their industrial capacities, and their companies support Freya, Freya will come to life in the near future,” he added.
Patriot remains top priority
Zelensky stressed that Patriot remains Ukraine’s top air defense priority and thanked the US and European partners for supplying the systems.
He also expressed hope that Ukraine would receive next-generation SAMP/T NG air defense systems from France under existing agreements.
“At the same time, both Patriots and SAMP/T systems take time. Production is very limited and waiting lists are very long,” he said, explaining why Ukraine had decided to develop its own European alternative.
Separately, Zelensky also said Ukraine has significantly disrupted Russia’s energy sector, dismissing suggestions that Kyiv should do more to prevent Moscow from importing fuel.
“Ukraine has already done it,” he said, arguing that Russia has shifted from being an energy exporter to importing fuel because of the consequences of its own war.
“I think if Boris Yeltsin had known that, more than 20 years later, Russia would be importing energy resources instead of exporting them because it foolishly decided to wage this war, he would have chosen a different successor,” Zelensky said.
