Russian armed forces struck Zaporizhzhia with five guided aerial bombs (KABs) on the evening of Thursday, July 23, injuring at least 18 people, including a child.
The attack struck three locations across the city, including its central district, Zaporizhzhia regional governor Ivan Fedorov reported.

“At the end of the working day, Russian forces dropped five guided aerial bombs on residential neighborhoods, knowing that civilians would be harmed,” Fedorov said.
Residential buildings and a private medical facility were damaged, while one bomb directly hit a high-rise apartment building. All 18 injured people were hospitalized, with one child remaining in serious condition.
Rescue operations underway
Emergency crews continued working at sites, while medical facilities operated at increased capacity. Additional resources were prepared in case of further Russian strikes.
Broader wave of strikes
Russian forces struck Kherson in a separate attack earlier on Thursday, with Ukrainian media Freedom reporting that roughly 10 KABs in less than half an hour hit the city center and the Korabel district.
Around the same time, Russian forces struck a residential area in Sloviansk with two KABs, wounding at least 14 people and damaging seven five-story apartment buildings.
Russian forces launched KABs on Kramatorsk and Zaporizhzhia on July 10, killing at least five people and injuring 45 others, United24Media reported. Reportedly, the attacks targeted mainly civilian infrastructure in both cities.

Seven KABs struck Kramatorsk, leaving four people dead, including a 14-year-old-boy, and nine wounded. A separate, parallel strike on Zaporizhzhia killed one person and injured 29 others, destroying at least 15 private houses and damaging a multi-story apartment building.
Russian combined attacks killed three in the Dnipropetrovsk region, when Russia launched a coordinated attack on Ukraine overnight on July 12, using drones, missiles, and KABs.
On July 13, Russian forces executed a similar mid-morning airstrike on the central district of Sloviansk, deploying three highly destructive KABs.
Just two days prior, Russian forces carried out another wave of attacks across eastern Ukraine, focusing on the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions.
On July 19, a train was struck by Russian forces in the Zaporizhzhia region. Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) reported that a monitoring group issued an early evacuation order, helping to prevent mass casualties, though one conductor sustained light injuries.
According to the United Nation’s (UN) Human Rights Monitoring Mission (HRMMU), Zaporizhzhia had 23 people killed and 229 injured in June, while Kherson saw 18 killed and 236 injured, and Dnipro reported 25 killed and 77 injured. These figures placed the three regions well above the rest of the country, reflecting their sustained exposure to shelling, drone strikes and aerial bombardment near the contact line.
