Russian forces struck four gas stations and a fire station in Ukraine’s central Poltava region early Saturday morning, July 25, as part of a massive drone and missile barrage.

In the Poltava region, Russian drones targeted fuel and emergency infrastructure. Vitalii Diakivnych, head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, reported that the strikes hit four gas stations and a fire station building in the Poltava district. Regional authorities reported no casualties resulting from these specific strikes despite the structural damage.

The strikes on Poltava were part of a widespread assault. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces launched a total of 157 attack drones – including Shahed, Herbera, and Italmas models, alongside Parodiya decoys – as well as two Kh-59/69 guided aviation missiles.

According to the Air Force, 26 drones struck nine different locations across the country, while falling debris from intercepted targets was recorded at four sites. The second guided missile failed to reach its target.

Fatal strike in Sumy

While the Poltava region sustained infrastructure damage without reported casualties, a Russian jet-powered drone struck a post office in the northern city of Sumy early Saturday.

Serhii Kryvosheienko, head of the Sumy city military administration, stated that the attack killed two men, including a 49-year-old. Authorities are currently working to establish the identity of the second victim. Sumy, located near the Russian border, frequently faces drone and missile attacks targeting civilian infrastructure.

The overnight attack hit civilian infrastructure in Sumy as Russian strikes continued across Ukraine, including Zaporizhzhia.

In southern Ukraine, regional authorities reported that one man was injured during an overnight Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia.

The Saturday strikes follow a deadly Russian ballistic missile attack on a defense industry event in the Kyiv region on Friday, which killed at least 10 people and injured nearly 100. Saturday was declared a day of mourning across the Kyiv region.

The overnight drone barrage targeting Poltava and other regions occurred as President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Ukrainian intelligence, alongside information provided by international partners, indicates Russia has prepared missiles for another massive attack that could take place within 48 hours.
