During the final days of October, Kyiv Post continues to celebrate its 30th anniversary, and there is certainly much to be proud of.
Amid this reflection and recalibration, today we pause to honor the memory of the man responsible for our transformation into the new Kyiv Post, which has affirmed itself as Ukraine’s globally most respected and trusted voice and monitor.

Sadly, Adnan Kivan, the visionary owner of Kyiv Post since 2018, passed away on Oct. 27, 2024, at the age of 61.
Before he left us, he managed, during the difficult period of transformation and Russia’s all-out war against us, to guide and inspire us as he transformed Kyiv Post into a more potent and authoritative publication and a preferred reference concerning Ukraine and its neighborhood.
Adnan Kivan, a successful Odesa-based, democratically minded Syrian, devout Muslim, patriotic Ukrainian citizen, and accomplished businessman, wanted Kyiv Post to move beyond its still rather insular perspective and reach out to the world. He aimed to modernize and internationalize its approach by utilizing the opportunities offered by social media, podcasts and video. He also wanted to establish a Ukrainian-language edition.
We, the new team he brought in for this purpose, have done our best to meet his expectations. We are very fortunate that Adnan Kivan’s son, Ruslan Kivan, shares his father’s passion for and commitment to Kyiv Post and wants to continue his father’s legacy of ensuring that Kyiv Post remains a beacon of Ukraine’s independent press and its trusted bridge to the outside world.

On this day, we remember Adnan Kivan with warmth and gratitude. He is missed but not forgotten. Together with his son Ruslan, we continue the mission he set for us.
