Moscow wants any Ukraine peace talks to focus on creating a "new world order", Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on a visit to Turkey on Friday, April 7.
The top Russian diplomat was in Turkey -- which has retained ties with both Moscow and Kyiv -- to hold talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.
He also threatened to abandon a landmark grain deal, which Turkey helped broker, if obstacles to Russian exports remain.
"Any negotiation needs to be based on taking into account Russian interests, Russian concerns," Lavrov said.
"It should be about the principles on which the new world order will be based."
He added that Russia rejects a "unipolar world order led by 'one hegemon'".
Russia has long said it was leading a struggle against the United State's dominance over the international stage, and argues the Ukraine offensive is part of that fight.
The Kremlin this week said it had no choice but to continue its more than year-long offensive in Ukraine, seeing no diplomatic solution.
The beginning of the offensive saw rising fears of a global food crisis as Russia and Ukraine are major exporters of grain and other agricultural products.
Lavrov however said Russia may pull out of the landmark deal that allowed vital exports to leave blocked ports in the Black Sea.
"If there is no further progress in removing barriers to the export of Russian fertilizers and grain, we will think about whether this deal is necessary," Lavrov said.
On the eve of the visit, Moscow said it extended the agreement "as a gesture of goodwill for another 60 days".
Russia has repeatedly threatened to abandon the agreement that has allowed the export of more than 25 million tons of grain.
Moscow has been complaining that its side of the agreement, promising the right to export fertilizer free from Western sanctions, is not respected.
Turkey is pushing for a 120-day extension in compliance with the original agreement, which was negotiated by Ankara and the United Nations last July.

The only New World Order Russia can envision is an order from McDonald’s. Russia is a Third World country in dire poverty throughout most of its vast country and should concentrate on lifting its own people out of backwardness and misery instead of coveting the territory of others. I don’t think the corrupt hegemonic Russia as we know it will survive Putin. He will take Russia down with him into the abyss. There will be no New World Order. The United States and the West are simply overwhelmingly more powerful, organized and advanced economically, militarily, culturally, and morally than Russia. Russia still lives in the 9th Century and will never recover from Putin’s folly.
Finally, Russia admits that its "strategic objective" is to overthrow the UN Charter that has been the blueprint for world peace since 1948. The countries supporting Ukraine militarily should form a new military alliance, the Global Democratic Alliance in support of the UN Charter.
Agreed different world views are important. Neither the west or east understand each other very well. That
puts the rest of us at their mercy. History is violent because of the large wars waged for profit and nationalism. Climate change the real threat will involve everyone. So this new world order is not about power its about not destroying what we touch. So spare the posturing it's bull shit. Mother nature's about to kick us where it's hurts.
I’ve seen wolf cries of impending climate doom all my long life. Nothing ever happens. The doom never…dooms. But I do notice a direct correlation between climate change vitriol and scientific grant renewal cycles. LOL
Russia has a point. USA and the West need to stop pushing their beliefs and policing the world
The only fools pushing their warped beliefs on others are the Russians. They are simply trying to find excuses for their criminal and genocidal conduct. It won’t work. The World views Russia like a child throwing a temper tantrum in the supermarket. The World just shake our heads in disgust. Russia has no friends. Not even China. Any other “friends” are just looking for cheap gas or are worse despotic regimes than Russia.
Russia is free to dream. The Chinese and Russian poles would not be attractive for.most.
