US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz is reportedly leaving his post on Thursday alongside his deputy, Alex Wong.

Waltz has been under increasing pressure following the Signalgate incident, in which he accidentally included the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic in a private group chat about the US’s imminent attacks on Yemen. Ensuing reports of him using his personal email for work have also raised concerns about his and his team’s security practices.

CBS News, citing “multiple sources familiar with their departure,” said Waltz and Wong are expected to leave the White House on Thursday with no further information.

CBS News did not say if Waltz was fired or resigned.

The White House did not immediately respond to the outlet’s request for comment.

While Signalgate has prompted criticism in some quarters, US President Donald Trump reportedly decided not to fire Waltz – at least not immediately – to avoid giving the “liberal media a scalp,” despite being infuriated by the incident, according to The Washington Post at the time.

During an interview with Fox’s Brian Kilmeade this week, Waltz has also made a list of inaccurate and misleading comments about Ukraine.
