US President Donald Trump launched a sweeping condemnation of the ongoing war in Ukraine, claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin “has gone absolutely crazy,” while also chastising Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky’s tone, asserting that he is “doing his country no favors.”

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote:

“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!”

He accused the Kremlin leader of killing large numbers of people “needlessly” and not just targeting soldiers. He pointed to the use of missiles and drones against Ukrainian cities, which he said was happening “for no reason whatsoever.”

Trump repeated his long-standing claim that Putin aims to seize the entire country.

“I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!” he wrote.

However, turning to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump said he is “doing his country no favors by talking the way he does.” US President alleged that “everything out of [Zelensky’s] mouth causes problems,” adding bluntly: “I don’t like it, and it better stop.”

Russia Launched 1,400 Drones and 1,500 Guided Bombs at Ukraine in a Week

President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russian forces deployed approximately 1,400 attack drones and 1,500 guided aerial bombs against Ukraine over the past week.

Calling the invasion “Zelensky’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s War,” Trump reiterated: “This is a War that would never have started if I were President.”

He concluded by casting himself as a reluctant firefighter in a crisis fueled by “Gross Incompetence and Hatred,” saying: “I am only helping to put out the big and ugly fires.”

As Kyiv Post’s Washington correspondent reported, Trump said Sunday he’s “not happy” with Putin’s actions in Ukraine and is “absolutely” considering further sanctions.

“He’s killing a lot of people, and I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin,” Trump told reporters when asked about Russia’s latest wave of attacks on Ukraine.

“We’re in the middle of talking and he’s shooting rockets into Kyiv and other cities. I don’t like it at all,” Trump said while speaking at Morristown Airport before flying to Washington, D.C., adding that he was “surprised at what he’s seeing.”

When asked whether sanctions were on the table, Trump responded clearly: “Absolutely!”

“I don’t like what Putin is doing. Not even a little bit,” Trump said. “He’s killing people. And something happened to this guy. And I don’t like it.”

Ukrainian officials on Sunday described the overnight Russian missile and drone strikes as the most massive coordinated aerial attack since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022. According to Ukrainian Air Force reports, Russian forces launched a total of 367 drones and missiles across the country.

Earlier this month, Trump floated the idea of sanctioning Russia if the Kremlin does not halt its aggression. However, despite reports of a phone call between Trump and Putin last Monday, the White House did not mention sanctions in its official readout.

Meanwhile, US Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg condemned the latest attacks and called for an immediate ceasefire. He said the strikes on Ukrainian cities were “a clear violation” of the Geneva Peace Protocols of 1977, including both Additional Protocols ratified on June 8 of that year.
