“Using various types of weapons, the Russians are striking people, ordinary residential buildings, and our civilian infrastructure,” Zelensky stated, adding that the attacks consistently result in civilian casualties and that the threat of continued strikes remains constant.
In response to the intensified aerial campaign, the president emphasized that reinforcing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities – particularly anti-ballistic systems – remains a primary objective. He also advocated for the expansion of the international “Drone Deal” framework and urged allies to apply more stringent sanctions against Moscow.
“Sanctions against Russia and its partners in this war must be enforced exactly where they will be felt the most,” Zelensky said. “Strong and prompt steps are required to force Russia toward ending this war.”

Continued strikes on Sumy and Zaporizhzhia
The release of the weekly statistics coincided with ongoing Russian assaults on the regions highlighted by the president.
On Saturday morning, Russian forces conducted a targeted drone strike on the northeastern city of Sumy. According to the National Police of Ukraine, the attack injured 11 civilians, including two children. The strike utilized a modified jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and directly hit a residential sector.
The morning assault followed a broader overnight drone barrage that heavily impacted the wider Sumy region. Strikes concentrated on the Okhtyrka district and surrounding communities injured 10 individuals, including a 53-year-old woman who sustained severe burns and remains hospitalized in critical condition. Regional authorities noted that the drones flew at low altitudes to evade radar detection, causing structural damage to private residences and local gas stations.
The attacks on Sumy were part of a larger nationwide drone wave. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched 129 attack UAVs overnight into Saturday, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas models, as well as decoy drones. Ukrainian air defense units successfully intercepted or suppressed 113 of the incoming drones.
Simultaneously, Russian tactical aircraft targeted the southern city of Zaporizhzhia with guided aerial bombs late Friday night. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that three bombs struck the city, damaging a high-rise apartment building and injuring six people, including a 13-year-old child.
