Rescue workers in Odesa have recovered the bodies of a married couple killed when a Russian drone struck a residential building, according to Ukrinform. Three children were also injured and remain hospitalized following the attack.

The drone hit a 21-story apartment building, causing fires to break out on the seventh, eighth, and ninth floors, trapping residents in their homes. Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov confirmed the discovery of the couple’s bodies, writing on Telegram that “rescuers have just found the bodies of a couple who died when an enemy drone hit an apartment.”

Three children were among the casualties of the strike. A seven-year-old boy is in moderate condition at a medical facility, while a three-year-old child was hospitalized after suffering from smoke inhalation, according to Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration. Medical staff are providing both children with necessary care.

In addition to the fatalities, four adults were injured in the attack and are currently hospitalized in moderate condition.

The State Emergency Service reported that rescue operations were complicated by repeated air raid alerts in the area. Despite the challenging conditions, emergency responders managed to rescue five people from the burning building, including a small child.

“Search and rescue operations are ongoing,” emergency services stated, adding that psychologists have been deployed to the scene and an emergency response center has been established.

Ukraine to Send Frontline Drone Experts to Strengthen NATO Defenses

Ukraine will send frontline drone warfare experts to Latvia next week to help assess air defense needs and counter growing drone threats in the Baltic region. Latvian Prime Minister Kulbergs said NATO must adapt more quickly, arguing that Ukraine possesses the world’s most advanced practical experience in drone warfare. The move comes after multiple drone incursions into Baltic airspace and amid broader concerns over Russia’s activities in the region.

Mayor Trukhanov announced that an operational headquarters will begin coordinating recovery efforts at the site beginning Saturday morning. Work to address the consequences of the attack continues as authorities assess the full extent of the damage to the residential complex.
