Russia launched drone and missile strikes on multiple Ukrainian regions in the early hours of August 1, sparking large-scale fires in the Kyiv region and causing civilian casualties in the Zaporizhia region.

In Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region, several enterprises caught fire following a Russian strike. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS), more than 100 rescuers and 34 units of equipment - including specialized robotic systems - were deployed to tackle the blazes.

 

The attack caused major damage to industrial facilities, including the partial destruction of an administrative building at a local furniture company, according to Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration (OVA).

No injuries were reported in the region.

In Balakliya, Kharkiv region, a drone strike hit a civilian industrial facility, sparking a fire. The head of the local military administration, Vitaly Karabanov, confirmed that there were no casualties.

In contrast, the Zaporizhia region suffered losses. Russian shelling of Veselyanka killed a 63-year-old man when a private house was hit. A 65-year-old man was also wounded in Malokaterynivka, where a fire broke out following the strike.

Later updates from the head of the Zaporizhia OVA, Ivan Fedorov, reported two more injuries: a 36-year-old woman in Veselyanka and a 77-year-old woman in Malokaterynivka. Both received medical attention.

On August 1, Russian forces struck a children’s psychoneurological boarding school in the village of Shevchenkove, Kupyansk district, Kharkiv region.

According to Serhiy Starikov, head of the Shevchenkove village military administration, the building was almost destroyed in an airstrike. Fortunately, there were no patients present at the time due to the ongoing full-scale war.

“Around midnight, the Shevchenkove community was subjected to a brutal airstrike. The children’s psychoneurological boarding school was destroyed. Fortunately, there were no victims. We were once again reminded of the inhuman nature of the enemy,” Starikov wrote on Facebook, sharing photos and videos of the attack’s aftermath.

The roof, ceilings, and walls were leveled, with all windows and doors shattered in the blast.

Elsewhere in Ukraine, the Dnipropetrovsk region was targeted by Russian drones. According to the head of the Dnipropetrovsk OVA, Serhiy Lysak, two children - a 4-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl - were rescued from under the rubble of a private house in Synelnykove district. The boy is in serious condition, while the girl’s condition is moderate.

 

Later, the regional prosecutor’s office clarified that three children had been pulled from the rubble, all of whom sustained injuries. Preliminary data suggests two suffered shrapnel wounds and contusions. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into possible violations of the laws and customs of war.

On the same morning, Russian forces shelled the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. At approximately 06:40 a.m., artillery fire killed a local woman born in 1974 - a mother of three - according to Kherson regional head Oleksandr Prokudin.

The Air Force of Ukraine reported that since the evening of July 31, Russia launched a wave of 72 drones - both strike and decoys - across Ukraine. The attack was countered by aviation units, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups.

As of 9:00 a.m. on August 1, 44 drones had been destroyed or suppressed across the north, south, east, and center of the country.

At least 28 drones struck targets in nine locations, including frontline areas of the Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, as well as parts of the Kyiv region.
