Russia carried out another overnight air attack on Ukraine on Wednesday, Jan. 7, firing a ballistic missile and launching 95 attack drones, Ukraine’s military said. Most of the weapons were intercepted by air defenses.
The attack began during the evening of Jan. 6 and continued into the morning, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Ukraine used fighter jets, air defense missiles, electronic warfare systems, drones, and mobile fire teams to respond. By 7:30 a.m., air defenses had shot down or disabled the missile and 81 drones over northern, central, and eastern regions.
Still, 14 drones hit targets at eight locations. Wreckage from downed drones fell in five other areas. The air force warned that the attack was still ongoing and urged people to remain in shelters.
In Dnipro, drones hit residential areas, injuring seven people, including two children. Mayor Borys Filatov said apartment buildings and schools were damaged, with hundreds of windows shattered in more than 10 high-rise buildings. Heating pipes near one building were also damaged.
