The Defense Forces of Ukraine launched a targeted strike on a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) training base in the eastern city of Pokrovsk, eliminating drone instructors and destroying operational equipment, the military reported on Sunday, July 5.
According to a statement and accompanying video released by Ukraine’s 7th Air Assault Corps, the strike targeted instructors from the Russian “Rubikon” center who were training drone crews in the city’s Lazurnyi neighborhood.

The military reported that Russian forces had been u a destroyed high-rise building as a base of operations for their pilots. Following the strike, Russian forces reportedly lost 10 to 15 personnel, up to two UAV crew operation points, a communications node, and ammunition reserves.
The 7th Air Assault Corps also stated that one of the targeted facilities contained ammunition storing toxic chemical substances.
Prior to the strike, Ukrainian intelligence analysis revealed continuous, 24-hour activity at the location. Russian aerial reconnaissance units were found to be using Wi-Fi bridges, routers, antennas, and Starlink terminals to coordinate and control their drone operations.
SBU targets logistics across occupied territories
The strike in Pokrovsk coincides with a broader, 40-day campaign by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) designed to degrade Russian military logistics and drone infrastructure across occupied territories.
Russia’s Empty Tank (And What This Means)
The SBU announced on Telegram that its “Alpha” special forces units, operating in the “middle strike” zone, have executed a series of precision strikes over the past week.
“The SBU daily reduces the combat potential of the Russian army – not only on the front line but also in the enemy’s rear,” SBU Head Yevhen Khmara stated. “Our special attention is concentrated on the temporarily occupied territories, where we consistently destroy everything that allows the enemy to fight: ammunition depots, fuel, logistics routes, communications, and troop control infrastructure.”
According to the agency, recent operations have successfully destroyed:
-
A command post for an attack drone complex in the Mykolaiv region.
-
Fuel and lubricant depots in occupied Crimea.
-
A critical communications hub near Huliaipole.
-
Multiple ammunition and materiel depots across the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
The SBU noted that these strikes have significantly complicated the resupply of frontline Russian units and inflicted personnel losses among Russian drone and logistics units.
Southern Ukraine operations
The ongoing campaign to sever Russian supply lines follows recent strategic gains by Ukrainian forces in southern Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Southern Territorial Defense Forces Command recently announced that Ukrainian troops had raised the national flag on the strategically vital Kinburn Spit after sustained Ukrainian strikes forced Russian personnel to abandon their defensive positions and evacuate.
The Kinburn Spit controls access to the ports of Mykolaiv and Kherson and has frequently been used by Russian forces as a launching point for strikes against southern Ukraine.
