Poland recorded 235 attempted illegal crossings from Belarus during the first half of 2026, down from more than 15,500 during the same period last year, the Interior Ministry said on Saturday.
The ministry said that border officers had stopped every attempt recorded this year, describing the border protection system as “100%” effective.

It also said an estimated 1,700 people crossed the border without being apprehended in 2025. That figure stood at around 5,000 in 2024 and 12,000 in 2023, highlighting a steady decline in successful illegal entries.
Poland has spent 3 billion złoty ($790 million) to strengthen its border with Belarus. Recent upgrades include a 5.5-meter-high steel fence stretching 186 km in the northeastern Podlaskie region and an electronic surveillance system covering 206 km of the frontier, including river sections.
Farther south, Poland has also installed a 172 km electronic monitoring barrier along the Bug River in the Lubelskie region.
Warsaw accuses Belarus, with support from Russia, of bringing migrants from the Middle East and Africa to the region and directing them toward the EU border.
Polish authorities describe the operation, which began in 2021, as a hybrid campaign aimed at destabilizing Poland and the wider EU.
