EXPLAINED: Has Poland Stopped Sending Weapons to Ukraine?

It's been a dramatic day on the diplomatic front between Poland and Ukraine, as a dispute over grain exports escalated. Kyiv Post explains how we got here.

Poland announced it will stop sending weapons to Ukraine in a dramatic move that is the latest development in an ongoing tussle between the two usually solid allies.

On Wednesday, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said: “We are no longer transferring weapons to Ukraine, because we are now arming Poland with more modern weapons.”

Watch the video above to find out why.

Oh please Poland stated several months ago that it was to stop sending weapons to Ukraine because their surplus stocks had been depleted and had no more to give and they have given a lot. ruzzian trolls and bots are just trying to cause division amongst Ukrainian supporters, allies and partners. #russiaTerroristState is now desperate since it has gone cap in hand to Kim Jong Crazy Dude begging for weapons and munitions that were supplied to North Korea decades ago by the Soviet communist barbarians. How desperate is the Bunker Grandpa to need help from a fail state.

It's simple,, Ukraine = good, Poland = good, focus on Russia = bad. If Ukraine falls, Poland is next, grain will be the least of the worries. Cut Ukraine plenty of slack, they are fighting for their survival and the freedom of people everywhere without any direct or fully committed help from the west, why are America, Europe and NATO not supporting Ukraime 100% with long range weapons and troops? The more you indulge a psychopath the more they are emboldened to kill and destroy their way to conquer whatever they can. Appeasing Hitler really worked out well didn't it?

"Add to this the huge scale of corruption in Ukraine and, to put it mildly, the opaque way of acquiring land. 5 million hectares (around 1/3 of all arable land in Poland) were privatized in violation of the law. As if this were not enough, in recent years alone, the oligarchs' enterprises received 85 percent of the budget allocated to agriculture. The money did not go to Ukrainian farmers, but to multi-billionaires."

"Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that 5 million hectares of agricultural land had disappeared from state property. Thus, he confirmed the words of the head of the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre, who in a series of interviews at the end of October reported that most of the state agricultural land had been illegally privatized. After approximately 4 million hectares of land were transferred to local governments as a result of the decentralization reform in 2018-2020, instead of the declared 6.4 million hectares of agricultural land, only 750,000 hectares of land are in the hands of the state. The missing over 5 million hectares (over 50,000 km², 8% of the country's territory) were illegally privatized as a result of a process that lasted for at least a dozen years" - this is an excerpt from the analysis of the Center for Eastern Studies."

Part II

Poland treated Ukraine very gently because it introduced an embargo on only four grains, meanwhile the Polish market is flooded with Ukrainian products that compete with Polish ones, but we do not complain about that.

Ukrainian grain was supposed to go to Africa, but it went mainly to Poland and bordering countries. Poland needs funds to help Ukraine, but it will not have these funds if Ukraine starts destroying our economy from the inside. This is what President Duda was talking about, when he compared rescuing Ukraine to rescuing a drowning man who may drag the rescuer to the bottom.

I want to emphasize that during this grain conflict, the transport of Ukrainian grain to ports and deep into Europe was never stopped by Poland. Poland is only sealing the wagons to prevent these four banned grains from entering our market.

Global aid through the hub in Poland is also carried out in the same way as before. Maybe with the difference that Poland itself does not currently have weapons to offer to Ukraine. And that's what our Prime Minister Morawiecki said. Of course, the global media, especially the German ones, informed the world that Poland has already stopped helping Ukraine, which is an obvious lie.

Part I
There is no overreaction on our part. For some time now, Ukraine has been behaving strangely, to say the least. And who understands Ukraine's pressure better than us? At this point, I am even completely ignoring Polish-Ukrainian historical context.

Poland is agriculturally self-sufficient and exports grain and other products itself. In fact, Poland is one of the largest food producers in the European Union. Agricultural production has a huge share of employment in Poland and accounts for at least 40 percent of Polish exports. For over a year and a half, Ukraine has been dumping grain onto our market. This led to problems on the market. Polish farmers not only realized that they would receive a price below the cost of production, but also that no one was going to buy their grain.

The Polish government compensated these losses for Polish farmers in the form of subsidies, and Ukraine interfered in this decision, criticizing the Polish government and claiming that Polish farmers should not receive any compensation for their losses. Ukraine even took Poland to the WTO Court to force further dumping of its grain on us.

An emotional mis speak by Zelinsky, born out of despair. Understandable, but it will be best to cool the rhetoric, because Poland needs to keep its own farmers happy prior to the coming election. Just hope this polish gov. survives the coming election, a right wing polish government might not be as helpful to Ukraine.Cool it and make the best deal possible after the election, when tempers have subsided. Cooler heads always prevail in the end.

Zelenskyy must play nice or must quit offending Poland because: 1. more than 10 percent among American voters have Polish roots. 2. Poles don't trust Zelenskyy because the latter is Jewish. 3. Like Ukraine, Poland is driven by envy. 4. millions of Ukrainian refugees flooded and are still flooding Poland. Shut up Zelenskyy-loose lips sink ships-quit being like Netanyahu-a jerk without integrity. Quit listening to your Jewish advisers regarding Poland-because they hate Poland-because millions of European Jews were murdered in Poland.

@Nowa Jan,
How dare you write that "Poles don't trust Zelenskyy because the latter is Jewish?

I am Polish and I say that Poles adored Zelensky as a hero of Ukraine. Our president Duda had tears in his eyes when he spoke to the media and described the danger Zelensky's life was in. For several days now, all of us, Poles, have been in a state of shock and anger after the behavior of the Ukrainian authorities and the above-mentioned president Zelensky. Well, what has happened will never be undone. We turned out to be romantic idiots, not for the first time in our history, and Ukraine has always been very pragmatic. There is no return for Poland in Polish-Ukrainian relations to the times of February 2023. We wish Ukraine all the best in their close alliance with Germany!

@trifleas,
Please don’t over-react. Imagine the pressure Zelensky is under, as he tries to balance fighting a war; looking after wounded soldiers & civilians; keeping a flooded & ruined country, lacking a lot of its essential infrastructure, functional; struggling to prove Ukraine can be a financially self sufficient state in the future so attracts investment; altering Ukrainian law so that it accords with EU requirements; figuring out how to join NATO; & trying to convince sceptical Americans & Europeans that Ukraine can carry on fighting and driving the Russians out.

I was surprised that Ukraine was so aggressive in its response to its neighbours’ protectionism, but I guess it was the last straw. Ukraine primarily exported steel & grain. Russia has destroyed the steel, so for income, Ukraine has only its agricultural produce. Russia blocked off the Black Sea & fully occupies the Sea of Azov, so export by land is its one slender thread of hope.

Poland wants to protect its small farmers prior to the election, understandably. But there must be a way to resolve this other than encouraging Russia. We Brits were pretty romantic about Poles in WWII, and even post- Brexit, many of us still are. Let’s keep it that way - you were staunch & swift thinking in 2022. Now please help your neighbour to a compromise everyone can live with.

It's easy to be arrogant when you're not fighting a war of survival and being bombed everyday. So, more Ukrainian soldiers will now die because Poland does not want to lose money? That's disgusting.
Let us ask Poland if they want to change places with Ukraine. Or to fight the ruzzians in Polish territory.

@Duarte Simões, - Given the wording of your post, you better be a soldier in the Ukrainian Army. If not, you have no right judge Poland's actions.

These matters are explained by "Gazeta Polska" (online) in the article "Premier Morawiecki mówił o przekazywaniu broni na Ukrainę. Światowe media podały to inaczej" (Prime Minister Morawiecki talked about transferring weapons to Ukraine. The world media reported it differently).

Poles are very surprised and outraged by the behavior of the Ukrainian government. Nevertheless, your information above is a lie.
