Russian forces launched a massive overnight attack on Ukraine with 49 Shahed strike drones, decoy drones, and two ballistic missiles early Wednesday morning, Aug. 13.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the assault began at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

“The enemy attacked with 49 Shahed strike UAVs and decoy drones of various types from the directions of Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Shatalovo (Russia), as well as two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from Russia’s Kursk region,” the statement on Telegram said.

Strike drones targeted Donetsk, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, while missiles struck the Poltava region.

The attack was repelled by Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare forces, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups.

By 8:00 a.m., air defenses had shot down or suppressed 34 targets - two ballistic missiles and 32 Shahed drones and decoy drones — in the north and east of the country.

However, 17 drones hit 15 different locations.

Local Telegram channel Poltava News. Sirena reported two powerful explosions during the air alert in Kremenchuk, Poltava region.

Photos allegedly showing drone debris were posted online, but local authorities have not yet commented on the damage or casualties.
