Newly-appointed British Prime Minister Liz Truss had a phone call with U.S. President Joe Biden to discuss economic issues caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

That’s according to a tweet posted by Truss:

“This evening I spoke with @POTUS about working together as leaders of free democracies to tackle shared challenges – particularly the economic problems caused by Putin’s war,” Truss tweeted.

The prime minister said the two countries would build on links, furthering their defense alliance through NATO and AUKUS (a pact signed by Australia, Great Britain, and the U.S.).

According to a readout of the call, released by the White House press service, the parties “discussed the importance of continued close cooperation on global challenges, including supporting Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression, addressing the challenges posed by China, preventing Iran from ever acquiring a nuclear weapon, and securing sustainable and affordable energy resources.”

In his own tweet, President Biden said he looks forward to “deepening the special relationship between our countries and working in close cooperation on global challenges, including continued support for Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression.”
