Ukrainian drones struck a major defense facility deep inside Russia on Monday, targeting the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant “Kupol,” more than 1,300 kilometers (over 800 miles) from Ukraine, Kyiv Post sources within Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) confirmed.
The plant is a critical part of Russia’s military-industrial complex. It produces Tor and Osa air defense missile systems, as well as Harpy combat drones for the Russian army. The facility is under international sanctions for supplying weapons used in Moscow’s war against Ukraine.

Russian officials acknowledged a drone strike on an industrial site in Izhevsk but did not disclose the name of the facility or details of the damage.
“Unfortunately, we have three fatalities. We extend our deepest condolences to their families,” Alexander Brechalov, head of the Udmurt Republic, where Izhevsk is located, wrote on Telegram.
“I visited the victims in the hospital. At the moment, 35 people have been hospitalized, 10 of whom are in serious condition.”
However, sources in Ukraine’s SBU told Kyiv Post that the attack precisely targeted Kupol’s production and storage buildings.
At least two drones struck the site, triggering large fires, according to the SBU sources.
“The SBU continues to deliver precise, surgical strikes on Russia’s defense enterprises that supply the war machine,” one source told Kyiv Post.

“Every successful operation lowers the enemy’s offensive potential, disrupts weapons production, and proves there are no safe zones for Russian military infrastructure – even deep inside its territory.”
Firefighters are still working to contain the blaze, and authorities reported casualties, though specific figures were not provided.
Photos and videos circulating on social media show smoke rising from the area, which Ukrainian sources identify as the Kupol factory.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that its air defenses shot down 60 Ukrainian drones overnight across several regions, including annexed Crimea, the Rostov region, and the Azov and Black Sea areas.
Drone attacks also disrupted operations at airports in Saratov, Ulyanovsk, Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, and Izhevsk. Residents in Saratov and Engels reported explosions and air raid sirens.
In Taganrog, a drone strike shattered windows in an apartment building and damaged several vehicles, though no injuries were reported. Officials in Oryol and Voronezh said there were no casualties or damage in those regions.
