President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Saturday, May 2, that “specific activity” was recorded on the Belarusian side of the Ukraine-Belarus border.

In a video address, the president stated that Ukrainian forces are carefully documenting and controlling the situation, warning that Ukraine is prepared to react to any attempts to draw neighboring forces into aggressive actions against its sovereignty.

The president also announced that Ukraine is preparing several new sanctions packages to be implemented immediately and in the near future.

Zelensky emphasized ongoing negotiations with partners in Europe, the Middle East, and the Gulf to strengthen Ukrainian air defenses and bolster economic stability, adding that he expects “weighty results” from high-level talks scheduled for May.

This warning follows a period of heightened tension and digital suppression within Belarus. Recently, the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation reported that Minsk has begun tightening control over internet access, mirroring Russian “sovereign internet” policies.

These domestic restrictions coincide with escalations in Alexander Lukashenko’s rhetoric and warnings from former Ukrainian officials that Belarus remains a potential platform for a new escalation, similar to the 2022 northern invasion route through Chornobyl.

UK Signals Readiness to Support Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Restoration

President Volodymyr Zelensky met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France, saying that Britain has taken new decisions on support for Ukraine, including sanctions on Russia’s shadow fleet and a possible role in restoring the damaged Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

Despite the military activity, the geopolitical situation remains complex. Lukashenko has recently been invited to join US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace following the release of political prisoners, signaling a potential, albeit controversial, thaw in relations with Washington even as military provocations continue near the Ukrainian border.
