Russian forces launched a highly destructive, multi-wave “double-tap” drone assault against the industrial zone of Zaporizhzhia on Saturday, May 30, killing one civilian, wounding three others, and causing extensive collateral damage to adjacent residential sectors.

The secondary deployment of loitering munitions was intentionally timed to strike the same industrial infrastructure facility while emergency crews and personnel were managing the aftermath of a severe early morning bombardment.

Fatalities and casualties escalate after repeat impact

The coordinated assault began during the early morning hours when Russian combat drones targeted a prominent municipal enterprise. First responders initially rescued a 40-year-old man directly from the blast center. Paramedics confirmed the worker had sustained catastrophic mine-blast trauma and severe shrapnel lacerations, rushing him to an intensive care unit in a critical condition.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. local time, while emergency operations were ongoing, Russian forces launched a second wave of strike drones aimed directly at the same facility. The second impact triggered a large-scale fire across the industrial property and caused partial structural collapses.

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Head Ivan Fedorov subsequently confirmed that one of the heavily injured victims succumbed to his wounds and died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

“One of the injured in Zaporizhzhia has died,” the Regional Military Administration said. “The number of wounded has risen to three – a 24-year-old man has also sought medical assistance.”

Russia’s Defense Ministry said it intercepted and destroyed 179 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions.

Medical teams are continuing to provide urgent assistance to the remaining survivors.

Wider destruction across the region

The secondary strike on the regional center significantly expanded the radius of destruction. Beyond hitting the primary corporate infrastructure, the blast waves and falling debris heavily damaged a multi-story residential building located near the facility.

Concurrently, Russian tactical assets launched a series of parallel strikes hitting agricultural and manufacturing sites across the wider Zaporizhzhia region. The regional administration confirmed that these secondary attacks severely damaged additional corporate premises and shattered windows and roofs in nearby private homes, leaving another civilian wounded.

The localized disaster in Zaporizhzhia unfolded during a highly aggressive weekend of Russian drone deployments across Ukraine’s southern frontline. Just hours prior to the morning strikes, a Russian loitering munition bypassed local electronic warfare shields at 11:00 p.m. on Friday local time to detonate inside a residential quarter of Kherson’s Korabelnyi district. That strike left three elderly residents suffering from shrapnel wounds and acute stress reactions, adding to a continuous wave of regional bombardments that also targeted civilian medical infrastructure in the Poltava district on Friday evening.
