President Volodymyr Zelensky will join world leaders on June 16 at the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains for a special discussion regarding the war in Ukraine, in a bid intended to push for clearer, long-term guarantees at moments when Western unity shows signs of strain.
According to Ukrinform, French President Emmanuel Macron announced Zelensky’s participation during a meeting with civil society representatives at the Élysée Palace.

“This is very important to us,” Macron said, “because it is necessary to restore the rapprochement of positions in the G7 in support of Ukraine on various aspects.”
He explained that the three-day summit in southeastern France will begin with a closed meeting of the seven leaders on major international crises, before they sit down with Zelensky on Tuesday morning for a dedicated Ukraine discussion.
Ahead of the meeting, Macron announced plans for an online discussion between the G7 leaders and China to address global trade imbalances and other economic questions, a reminder that the war in Ukraine is now interwoven with broader debates over sanctions and supply chains with Beijing.
Zelensky steps up diplomacy ahead of G7
Zelensky said he held a “very substantive” conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, revisiting their earlier talks in London and coordinating next steps amid the G7 summit.
The two leaders also discussed Zelensky’s conversation with US President’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as Ukraine seeks to reinvigorate diplomacy and secure strong results at the G7 format in France.
